Composition and sound collection

In our music collection visitors can choose from about 8000 acoustic documents: traditional LPs, cassettes and CDs. In our collection there are valuable pieces of music from the early days to the contemporary composers of the present days. Besides the acoustic materials, there are books for visitors to borrow or use on the premises and there is sheet music, all of them to provide extensive information.

Our language books that are supplied with cassettes support those wishing to acquire languages.

The music library considers its main goal to purchase and supply musical handbooks, specialized literature and pieces of music; naturally, it is also important for us to maintain traditions.  The composer of the Hungarian national Hymn, the creator of the Hungarian opera, Ferenc Erkel was born in Gyula, so the town considers its duty to take possession of every publication of his compositions and literature about him. The Ferenc Erkel finding-list provides help to the Erkel- collection, which makes the researchers’ work easier. In the spirit of traditionalism, our library is the residence of Ferenc Erkel Association.

Our services are available for readers with valid library cards during the opening hours of the library, excluding Saturdays.
